A brilliant article that addresses the problem of globalization by mass media as weapons of "social status and success." My main concern is how soon these weapons are accosted by young people (teenagers) and the life-long overdrive. How can we change the power of mass media to be less consumer driven without imperial control...start with young people if possible. They say the internet also democratizes voices but which multinational corporation would stop unhealthy consumption or resource depletion efforts for sole mega profits. They say education can enlighten...but now, even classroom homogenized learning is challenged by independent virtual learning where monopolies may rule again.
