Fair Farmer’s Ruminations

7 min readMay 19, 2022

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” Einstein

Due to prevailing family events, I have returned to my childhood farmstead in my retirement. Again, like life’s cycle, I live in the same house in which I grew up, walk the same barnyard and explore the fields and forests as a child.

So many memories and new experiences meld together to unearth new thoughts and creative metaphors that speak of essential cores. A rotten cabbage head becomes a troll and icicles become 3 stages of truth. Animals and birds bond with the human spirit to cooperate, persevere and serve nature’s call. The family farm is meant to survive.

These stories and poems are shared with hopes for some enlightenment that we belong together on the land … synchronized human, animal and nature.
