The more times I weight cycled, the harder it was to do it the next time. Every time I did it, the set point my body tried to stabilize at ended up just slightly higher than where I started. I didn’t understand that I’d need to continue tracking my food intake forever to maintain the lower weight. I thought there would be an endpoint somewhere. Spoiler alert: There isn’t.
It's hard to fight the brain's homeostasis control....we can exercise everything and eat carefully, but the brain's own metabolic regulator is in charge. I agree this diet marathon should be less stress with more emphasis on healthy whole food metabolism. Excellent writing.
